Re/Th Massage

Remedial / Therapeutic Massage
(Deep Tissue)

Remedial/ Therapeutic (also know as Deep tissue) massage assists in injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Massage strokes are slower, the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. This allows the deeper sub layers of muscle fibres and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles) to be attended to.

The primary goal for deep tissue massage is to restore a balanced upright posture, decrease symptoms of pain, break down scar tissue/muscle adhesions and improve your range of motion. It is a massage technique that works on the deeper layers of muscle tissue.

Sports massage can help prevent injury and increases performance throughout the training schedule. With the help of regular massages issues can be addressed before they arise. Different techniques would be applied depending on if it is a pre-event or post-event massage.

Sports massage is great for people who might be training for the “Strong Man” event, are body building, marathon runners, cyclists, swimmers or for everyday people who enjoy playing team sports.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a technique that is used to break down facial adhesions in order to allow muscle fibres to return to their proper alignment.

Fascia or connective tissue supports the skeleton, muscles, tendons, ligaments and organs. When injury or a trauma occurs, the cells in the connective tissue sheath generate a denser web around the site to prevent movement. This in turn decreases the range of movement near the associated muscles and can cause pain.

Cupping (also known as Myofascial decompression (MFD), is a technique use for stretching out the fascia and creating space for the tissues to glide on itself.  By doing this, the tissue can re-line itself to give more freedom for movement and better posture.

Techniques like static cupping and/or cup sliding over the adhesion can help bring release to the treated area.
Static cupping can also be used while moving the body parts (whether active or passive) to help regain ROM (Range Of Motion).

Cupping is great for areas that are having trouble being release by manual therapy.

Please note that this technique of cupping is for Myofascial release, not the traditional Chinese therapy of cupping.
Also note that bruising can occur for up to 2 weeks.

Rela/HotSrone

Relaxation Massage

Relaxation massage has been shown to decrease cortisol in the body. This allows the body to enter a relaxing rest-and-recovery mode, an effect that lingers long after the massage is over.

In fact, massage triggers a host of brain chemistry responses that can result in lasting feelings of relaxation, lowered stress and an improved mood.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a great way to promote a deeper relaxation, reduce stress, anxiety and helps with muscle tension and pain.

Basalt stones are commonly used for hot stone massage. The different sized stones are smooth and flat and are heated to between 37 – 40 degrees.

I use hot stones as an extension of my hands with constant flowing strokes in a mix of almond or coconut oil and wax with essential oils added to create an Ultimate Relaxation Experience.

Clients have described the experience as a “conscious floating sleep” – being in a sleep state, yet aware of the wonderful sensation.
